We Had a Secret | Postcard #2 from Abbey Road

Dear Reader

The day before our recording session, we joined the crowd outside Abbey Road Studios.
But unlike everyone else standing there, we were carrying a secret.

Tomorrow.

Tomorrow, we'd be walking through those gates.

Originally built in 1831 as a Georgian townhouse, Abbey Road Studios was purchased in 1929 by the Gramophone company. The recording studio officially opened on November 12, 1931 with the opening ceremony featuring the London Symphony Orchestra performing Land of Hope and Glory, conducted by the legendary composer Sir Edward Elgar. Originally called EMI Studios, it was renamed Abbey Road Studios in the 1970's and is now considered one of the most iconic recording studios in the world.

Located at 3 Abbey Road in London, it has welcomed countless artists through its doors and remains an active working studio today. Of course, not only rock artists like the Beatles, Pink Floyd, and David Bowie have recorded here, but also classical artists like Maria Callas, Jacqueline DuPrè, Pablo Casals, Sergei Prokofiev, Igor Stravinsky and composer/conductor John Williams.

For our project, Studio One was especially important because it's the recording space that is large enough to accommodate the full 70-piece London Symphony Orchestra we are using on our album.

Fun Fact: The famous graffiti-covered wall outside Abbey Road is intentionally preserved as part of the visitor experience. The studio periodically paints the wall white, giving music fans a fresh canvas for signatures, messages, and memories.

Our names were on the wall in April.

They're probably long gone by now.

But our music is just getting started!

Here's this week's postcard...

The Faces and Stories Behind the Music
We Had a Secret

Our producer, Phillip, had one instruction for April 9:

"Be ready to leave the hotel at 10:30 a.m."

We were.

A prestigious black cab (at least it felt that way to Frances), pulled up to the hotel and whisked us away.

When our cab pulled up to the studio, a crowd had already gathered outside Abbey Road.

We had been part of that crowd the day before.

But this time, the gates opened for us.

We stepped out of the cab and onto the famous zebra crossing.

After three years of planning, fundraising, choosing repertoire, and wondering if all the pieces would come together, we were finally in London, at Abbey Road Studios.

For one extraordinary day, we weren't standing outside looking in.

We were part of the story happening behind those doors.

It was worth the wait.

This past Thursday we had the honor of performing for an amazing (and large!) crowd at Woodcrest Villa in Lancaster. Their enthusiasm was contagious and we were rather sad to have to leave! This was our 6th performance there, and we were so grateful to be back. In fact, here they are...🙌🏼

Dear Reader One of the things we have been most excited about since returning from London is seeing the photos from our day at Abbey Road Studios. A few weeks ago, hundreds of photographs finally arrived in our inbox. We've spent some time sorting through them and reliving the day, and we're excited to finally begin sharing a few of our favorites. While we're busy preparing for the next phase of the project in Nashville, we thought it might be fun to occasionally bring you along through a...
